In this section, Biodiversity Lists, we will be adding observations on the biodiversity of Slough Pond within the context of biodiversity in the general Brewster area. Under iNaturalist I have already documented fifty species, with the photographic evidence required. I have an extensive list of sighted but not verified species I will be adding to over the year.
The river herring (alewife) migration into and emigration from Slough Pond supports a vast network of wildlife in a fragile ecosystem. They are a keystone species and Slough Pond is a nursery habitat for their young. As part of our advocacy for keeping the passage open from Walker's Pond to Slough Pond, it is my hope this documentation will support our efforts.
